We are in process of changing here at Casa de Fe. We had been planning with DIF 5 years to structure Casa de Fe and have been working with DIF's children for the last 5. When we started we embraced the direction of creating a family environment to educate the children to what a normal family environment should look like. This was encouraged by DIF and applauded by many of you who have come to visit. This was the mission we had agreed to, worked toward and implemented. Then with the last change of power 2 1\2 years ago the expectation changed from before to more of a maintenance mentality. Essentially the idea was that the children were wards of the state and we were taking care of them, we were an extension of the state system of maintenance. The expressed intention now is to empty the system of as many children as they can without taking into account the wishes of the children, families or orphanages. On the surface it seems expedient but the underlying damages to the children is not being taken into account. As we were told by several people in DIF they are names in a file and cannot be thought of as anything else. It also has a side benefit of lowering the state budget.
We have been in discussion with our board and many other people here in San Felipe for several months about how Casa de Fe can make a greater difference in our community. We are now planning on how to accommodate handicapped children during the day so their mothers can work. There is not another facility here in San Felipe that provides this care. We are planning on providing a free daily meal for children here in the Ejido, or from where ever they may live, as well as a community center for the children to come and study, learn to read and have a location to play in the afternoons. We are blessed to have the facility that you all have helped us create and we are planning on how to continue to use this haven to continue His work here in San Felipe. We have made a committment to the children in our community and to you. We are more concerned with helping the children of San Felipe and Baja than continuing the required changes and budget reductions of the State.
For the monthly donors who have so generously assisted us in our work, we are also holding all donations that are received automatically until we have corresponded with you and are given permission to use these funds for our continuing mission.
Our mission is clear, we are committed to helping the children and families within this community.
